About PDF Tools

Merge, split, compress and convert PDFs without uploading them anywhere

PDFs are how the world shares documents — contracts, invoices, study notes, legal filings, scanned forms. And the workflows around them are some of the most-searched online: merging multiple files into one, splitting a long PDF into chapters, compressing a scan to email, converting to or from images, extracting specific pages. ToolsRift offers 28+ PDF tools that handle every common task, completely in your browser, without ever uploading your sensitive documents to a third-party server.

Tools include merge (drag-to-reorder, with thumbnails), split (by page range or every N pages), compress (with quality presets), rotate pages, delete pages, extract pages, PDF to image (per page or zip), image to PDF (with order and page-size control), PDF to text (OCR fallback for scanned PDFs), PDF metadata viewer and editor, password protect, remove password (if you know it), watermark, sign with a drawn signature, and page numbering.

Every tool uses pdf.js, pdf-lib or similar mature libraries that run as WebAssembly in your browser. Output is byte-identical to what desktop PDF editors produce.

Why ToolsRift

Why our pdf tools are different

PDFs often contain the most sensitive content people handle online — passport scans, tax returns, legal contracts, medical records. Uploading them to a free online tool to merge or compress is a serious privacy risk. ToolsRift processes PDFs entirely on your device. Drop a file onto any tool and you can watch in DevTools that zero network requests are made.

We also preserve quality. The compressor uses smart per-image re-encoding (not a destructive flatten), the merger preserves bookmarks and form fields, and the splitter keeps all original metadata. Even the OCR tool runs as WebAssembly in your browser — your scanned tax return is never sent anywhere.

How It Works

How to use pdf tools

1
Drop your PDF(s) onto the tool
Drag from your desktop or click to browse. Merge tools accept multiple files; single-file tools accept one at a time.
2
Configure the operation
For merge, drag pages to reorder. For split, enter page ranges (e.g. 1-3, 5, 7-9). For compress, pick a quality preset. For watermark, enter the text and choose position and opacity.
3
Preview the result
Most tools show page thumbnails so you can confirm the right pages will be processed before generating the output.
4
Download the new PDF
Click download to save the result. Batch operations (like PDF to images) bundle output as a zip. Files are not stored anywhere after download.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our pdf tools.

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?+
No. Every PDF tool runs entirely in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib (both open-source, well-audited libraries). You can verify by opening DevTools → Network when you drop a file — there will be no upload requests. Your files never leave your device.
What's the maximum PDF size?+
Limited by your browser's memory. Modern laptops handle PDFs up to 500MB-1GB. For very large files, processing may take a few seconds, but nothing is truncated. Mobile browsers have lower limits, typically 50-100MB.
Can I extract text from a scanned PDF?+
Yes. The PDF-to-text tool first tries native text extraction (instant for digital PDFs). If the PDF is a scan (just images), it falls back to in-browser OCR using Tesseract WebAssembly — slower but still completely local.
Does the compressor lose quality?+
You control the tradeoff via a quality preset. The "high quality" preset typically halves file size with no visible difference. The "smallest" preset can shrink files 5-10x but you may see compression artifacts in image-heavy PDFs. A live preview shows exactly what you will get.
Can I remove a password from a PDF?+
Yes, but only if you already know the password. The tool will not crack or guess passwords. If you have a PDF you legitimately own but cannot remember the password for, this tool cannot help — that is a deliberate security boundary, not a limitation.
