About Media Studio

Media Studio brings together 25 video tools and 30 audio tools for the small edits that do not justify installing an editor. Cut the start and end off a clip with the Video Trimmer, shrink a phone recording for a chat app with the Video Compressor, or turn a funny moment into a loop with Video to GIF. On the audio side you can trim a song against its waveform with the Audio Trimmer, make a 30-second Ringtone, or check a headset before a call with the Microphone Tester.

Decoding and encoding happen in a background worker in your browser, using the WebCodecs support built into modern browsers. Your clips stay on your device. Recorders for the screen, webcam and voice save each recording as a file on your device. For uncommon formats such as WMV, FLV or AMR, some tools offer an optional ffmpeg fallback of about 30 MB that loads from jsDelivr only when you tick it. Long or high-resolution videos need memory, so a laptop or desktop handles them better than an older phone.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything to edit video here?
No. The tools use features already built into current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Nothing is installed.
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Files are read and processed in your browser tab. The only optional download is the ffmpeg fallback for rare formats, which is program code, not your file.
Which formats can I export?
Most video tools write MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV, and audio tools write WAV, M4A/AAC or Opus. MP3 output needs the optional ffmpeg fallback. Each tool lists its own choices.
Why is my recording a WebM file?
Browsers record in the formats they support natively. Chrome, Edge and Firefox usually record WebM; Safari records MP4. You can change the container afterwards with the Video Converter.
Can I take the audio out of a video?
Yes. Video to Audio saves the soundtrack as its own file, ready to trim or convert with the audio tools.
