How to use the PDF page counter
- Drop your PDFs onto the box or press Choose files. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to change their order, or ✕ to remove one.
- Press Count pages.
- With one file you see its page count and first page size. With several you also get a table and the total.
- Download the table as a CSV if you need to keep a record.
What it does and when to use it
Print shops, binderies and copy centres often charge per page, so the page count is the first thing to check before you send a job. Students need it to stay within a page limit, and offices use it to check that a scanned batch is complete — a 24-page contract that counts as 23 has a missing page.
The batch mode saves opening ten files one by one. Drop the folder’s PDFs in together and the total is ready to quote. If the total is too high for a printer, the 2-up tool puts two pages on each sheet.
How it works
The tool uses pdf-lib to open each file on your device and read the page tree, the part of a PDF that lists its pages. It does not draw the pages, so even long files are counted quickly. For the size column it reads the first page’s visible area in points (1/72 inch), allows for rotation, and compares it with A4, US Letter, US Legal, A3 and A5. Files are handled one after another and a progress bar shows how far it has got. Nothing is uploaded.
Worked examples
One file. A 24-page bank statement exported from online banking gives Pages: 24 and Page size: A4 portrait.
A batch of three. A 12-page A4 report, a 3-page US Letter letter and a 5-page slide handout saved as landscape A4 give Total pages: 20 and Files: 3, and this table:

Limits and tips
- Only the first page’s size is shown. A file can mix sizes; the page resizer puts every page on one size.
- A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be counted until you remove the password with Unlock PDF, using the password you already have.
- The count is pages in the file, not printed sides. A 9-page file printed double-sided uses 5 sheets.
- To jump to a page and look at it, open the file in the PDF viewer.
