Privacy policy

ToolsRift (toolsrift.com) is a collection of free browser tools run by the owner of ToolsRift from Hyderabad, India. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. The short version: the files and text you process are never uploaded to us. Adverts and analytics do collect some information, and you control that through the consent message.

1. Files and text you process

Every tool runs inside your browser. When you drop a PDF, image, video, audio file or document into a tool, or type text into one, it is read and processed on your own device using JavaScript, Web Workers and WebAssembly. There is no upload endpoint on ToolsRift: the files are not sent to our servers or to anyone else, and we cannot see them. Results are created in your browser's memory and handed to you as a download.

Some tools download extra code the first time you use them — for example a PDF library, an OCR language pack or the background-removal model. These downloads come from public code hosts (listed on the privacy proof page) and travel to your device; nothing about your file is sent with them. You can check this yourself with your browser's developer tools, as the privacy proof page explains.

One exception is outside our control: the text-to-speech tool uses the voices built into your browser. Some of those voices are online voices run by the browser's maker (for example the "Google" voices in Chrome), and the browser sends the text to that company to be spoken. The tool marks online voices in its list so you can pick a voice that stays on your device.

2. Information collected automatically

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools are used and whether they work, and Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, to measure page views and site speed. Analytics events record things like the tool's name, how long a task took, a rough size bucket of the input (for example "1–10 MB") and error codes. We never send file names, file contents or the text you type to any analytics service. Google Analytics uses Consent Mode: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage are off until you agree.

Advertising

ToolsRift is free because it shows adverts through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. They may also use cookies or similar technologies to limit how often you see an ad and to measure ads. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).

Consent

Visitors in regions where consent is required see a consent message provided by Google, a certified consent management platform using the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy & cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Visitors in US states with privacy laws can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information through the same message.

Server logs

Our host, Cloudflare, processes the technical information every website request contains (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We do not use these logs to identify individuals.

3. Ratings and problem reports

If you rate a tool or send a "Report a problem" message, we store the tool name, your rating or message (up to 500 characters) and the date. To stop the same person rating a tool many times in a day, we store a one-way hash of your IP address combined with a secret that changes every day — the raw IP address is never stored and the hash cannot be turned back into it. Please do not include personal information in problem reports. Individual rating events are deleted after 30 days, leaving only the total count and average per tool. Problem reports are kept for up to 12 months.

4. Storage on your device

ToolsRift stores a few small items in your browser's local storage so the site works the way you left it. They never leave your device:

• tr-theme — your light or dark theme choice;
• tr-recent and tr-fav — your recently used and favourite tools;
• tr-rated-… — that you have already rated a tool;
• tr-successes — a count of finished tasks, used only to decide when to suggest installing the app.

When you send a result to the next tool with the "Next" buttons, it is kept in your browser's IndexedDB for up to one hour and deleted as soon as the next tool opens it. If you install ToolsRift as an app, your browser caches the site's code so it works offline. You can clear all of this at any time in your browser settings. The cookie policy lists cookies set by advertising and analytics partners.

5. Why we process information (legal bases)

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies: analytics and personalised advertising rely on your consent; non-personalised advertising, security logs, rate-limiting and keeping the site working rely on our legitimate interests in running a free, ad-funded service safely. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process personal data only for these stated purposes, with your consent where the Act requires it.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting earlier processing), to data portability, and to complain to your data-protection authority (for example the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your EU supervisory authority). Because we do not store files, names, emails or accounts, most requests concern advertising and analytics data, which you can manage directly through the footer's privacy settings, Google's ad settings and your browser. 7. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers named above (Google for ads, consent and analytics; Cloudflare for hosting, analytics and our small database) to provide the service, or where the law requires it. These providers may process data outside your country under their own safeguards.

8. Children

ToolsRift is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the home page for at least 30 days.
