How to use PDF Redaction Tool

Upload a PDF, then drag on the page to draw black boxes over anything sensitive. Move between pages — boxes are kept per page. When you apply the redaction, every page is re-rendered as an image with the boxes painted in, so the covered content no longer exists in the file.

Is redaction permanent?

Yes. Each page is rasterised and the black boxes are painted onto the bitmap, so the original text and vector content is discarded. Unlike drawing a rectangle in a PDF editor, the hidden words cannot be selected, copied or recovered.

What is the trade-off?

Because the pages are rebuilt as images, the whole document stops being searchable and selectable, and the file size grows. Keep an unredacted original if you may need the text later.

How do I select areas to redact?

Click and drag to draw a rectangle over the sensitive area. Draw as many as you need, on any page, then apply them all at once. Undo removes the last box on the current page.
