How to use Online Voice Recorder

Where does the recording go?

Nowhere but your own device. Audio captured through getUserMedia is held in browser memory and written to a local file only when you press download. There is no server involved at any point.

Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?

Browsers require explicit consent before any page can access a microphone. If you decline, the recorder simply cannot start; you can re-enable access from the padlock or camera icon in your address bar and reload.

What format is the recording?

The recorder uses MediaRecorder with the best format your browser offers, usually WebM with Opus audio on Chrome and Firefox and MP4/AAC on Safari. The tool shows which one is in use before you record.
