How to use Signature Pad
- Draw your signature, larger than the final size.
- Clear and redraw until it looks right.
- Download the transparent PNG and store it somewhere private.
- The drawing never leaves your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- Transparent background so it sits on any document without a white box.
- Wills, property transfers and some court filings may still require a wet signature.
What a drawn signature is legally worth
In most jurisdictions an electronic signature is valid and enforceable — the US ESIGN Act and UETA, the EU’s eIDAS regulation, India’s IT Act. What varies is the standard of proof if it is disputed. A drawn image proves very little on its own; a signing platform that records identity, timestamp, IP address and an audit trail proves considerably more. For routine documents an image is fine; for anything with real value, use a service that produces evidence.
Some documents still cannot be signed this way
Wills and codicils, many property transfers, powers of attorney, and some court filings require a wet signature and sometimes a witness or notary, and the rules differ by jurisdiction. eIDAS also distinguishes simple, advanced and qualified electronic signatures, with only the last carrying the same legal weight as handwriting across the EU. Check before assuming an image suffices.
Getting a usable image
Draw larger than you need and scale down — the result is smoother, because the stroke is averaged over more pixels. A finger on a touchscreen produces a better line than a mouse; a stylus is better than either. Keep the background transparent so it sits on any document without a white box around it, which is the giveaway of a pasted signature.
Treat the image file as sensitive
A signature image can be copied onto any document by anyone who has it. Do not email it around, do not leave it in a shared drive, and be wary of sending it to anyone who asks for one separately from a document — that request is itself a warning sign. Drawing it here is safe because it never leaves your browser; what happens to the file afterwards is the risk.
