How to use the slashthrough text generator

1. Type your text into Your text.
2. Leave Also mark spaces unticked (the default here) to slash only letters, numbers and symbols; tick it to slash the gaps too.
3. Copy the result from Styled text with Copy.

What it does and when to use it

A slash through a word reads as “not this”, like the stroke on a no-entry sign. People use it for ironic corrections (“I̸ ̸d̸i̸d̸ ̸n̸o̸t̸”), for “banned” lists in game chats and for a slightly edgy look in usernames and artwork captions. In maths, the same mark negates a relation: = becomes ≠ and ⊂ becomes ⊄.

For a horizontal stroke, try strikethrough text. For a broken, noisy look, the glitch text generator can include slashes among many other marks. A bar above letters is the overline generator.

How it works

The tool adds U+0338 COMBINING LONG SOLIDUS OVERLAY after each visible character. The mark belongs to the Combining Diacritical Marks block and is drawn on top of the character before it. Spaces and tabs get the mark only when Also mark spaces is ticked; line breaks never do.

Unicode treats some pairs of a symbol plus U+0338 as equal to a single negated symbol: = with the slash is equivalent to ≠ (U+2260), ⊂ with it to ⊄ (U+2284), and ∈ with it to ∉ (U+2209). The tool always writes the pair; whether you see the pair or the single symbol depends on the app that shows it.

Worked examples

From the tool’s own function:

• no entry with the defaults → n̸o̸ e̸n̸t̸r̸y̸. The space between the words stays clear.
• no entry with Also mark spaces ticked → n̸o̸ ̸e̸n̸t̸r̸y̸, one slash more, over the gap.
• A ⊂ B → A̸ ⊄ B̸. The ⊂ plus slash displays as “not a subset of” in many fonts. For a clean maths statement, slash only the ⊂ and type A and B normally.

Limits and tips

• Accessibility. Screen readers usually ignore the slash or announce “combining long solidus overlay” each time, so the “not” meaning can vanish or drown in noise. Search may not match slashed words. Say the negative in plain words when it matters.
• Each slash counts as a character, which doubles length in character-limited fields.
• Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
