How to use the strikethrough generator

1. Enter your words in Your text.
2. Under Stroke, choose Long stroke for a continuous line or Short stroke for a lighter bar on each letter.
3. Decide on Also mark spaces: ticked runs the line across gaps; unticked leaves gaps clear.
4. Press Copy under Styled text and paste the result.

What it does and when to use it

Strikethrough says “this was here, and it changed”. People use it to show an old price next to a new one, to make a joke out of a word they “did not mean” to say, or to tick off items in a plain-text list. Since the stroke is part of the characters, it survives being pasted into profile fields, comment boxes and messages that strip formatting.

How it works

Each character you type, counted the way you see it (so an emoji is one), is followed by one combining mark from the Combining Diacritical Marks block:

• Long stroke: U+0336 COMBINING LONG STROKE OVERLAY
• Short stroke: U+0335 COMBINING SHORT STROKE OVERLAY

A combining mark is drawn on top of the character before it and takes no space of its own. Line breaks are left alone, and with Also mark spaces off, any space or tab is skipped.

Worked examples

Real outputs from the tool:

• An old price. was $40 now $25 with the long stroke and spaces marked gives w̶a̶s̶ ̶$̶4̶0̶ ̶n̶o̶w̶ ̶$̶2̶5̶. In practice you would strike only $40 and paste it in front of the new price.
• A light correction. old plan with Short stroke and spaces unmarked gives o̵l̵d̵ p̵l̵a̵n̵, two struck words with a clean gap.

Limits and tips

• Fonts decide the look. The long stroke can sit high on capitals and low on lowercase letters, and some fonts draw it slightly off-centre.
• Accessibility and search. Screen readers tend to read the letters and ignore the stroke, or name every mark aloud, and in-app search may not find the words. Keep the real meaning in plain text.
• Character limits. Each mark counts as a character, so struck text uses about twice the space.
• The conversion runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
