How to use the Unicode text box generator
- Type your lines in Your text. Each line break starts a new row inside the box.
- Pick a Border: Single, Double, Rounded, Heavy, ASCII, Stars or Hash.
- Choose Align (Left, Centre or Right) for lines shorter than the longest one. Centre is the default.
- Set Padding from 0 to 6 spaces.
- Press Copy on the Text art result and paste it into a monospaced place.
What it does and when to use it
Framed text draws the eye in places that only show plain characters: a banner at the top of a script file, a notice in a README, a header in a terminal app, or a message in a Discord code block. It is also handy for plain-text menus and receipts.
To paste a box into Discord so it keeps its shape, wrap it in a code block with the Discord text formatter. For typewriter-style letters inside a normal post, use monospace text instead. Arrows, stars and other single symbols are in cool symbols and kaomoji.
How it works
The borders come from the Box Drawing block (U+2500–U+257F): light lines such as ─ │ ┌ ┐, heavy lines ━ ┃ ┏ ┓, double lines ═ ║ ╔ ╗ and the rounded corners ╭ ╮ ╰ ╯. The ASCII, Stars and Hash styles use only + - | * and #.
First, trailing blank lines and spaces at the end are removed. The tool then measures every line in screen columns: most characters are one column, Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and emoji are two, and combining accents are zero. The widest line sets the box width. Shorter lines are padded with spaces on the left, right or both sides to match your Align choice, and the Padding spaces are added on both sides.
Worked examples
From the tool’s own function:
Open 9-5, Double, padding 1 gives a three-row sign:╔══════════╗,║ Open 9-5 ║,╚══════════╝. The inside is 8 characters plus 2 spaces, so the top edge has 10 ═.- A three-line menu (
Menu,Tea 2,Coffee 3), Heavy, Left: rows read┃ Menu ┃,┃ Tea 2 ┃,┃ Coffee 3 ┃, all padded to the width of “Coffee 3”. 日本, Single: the middle row is│ 日本 │and the edges have 6 ─, because the two characters count as four columns.
Limits and tips
- Screen readers read every border piece, often as “box drawings light horizontal” over and over. If the boxed text is important, put the same words in plain text nearby.
- Tabs count as one column, which breaks the frame. Replace tabs with spaces first.
- The box is built in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
