What it does and when to use it
Monospace letters have the plain, even shapes of a typewriter or a code editor. People use them to give a bio a “developer” feel, to set off a product name, to make a quote look like a terminal message, or to style a short heading in a newsletter that only allows plain text.
It is a costume, not a tool for code. For a full-width “aesthetic” look instead, try the fullwidth text generator. To see monospace next to every other style, open fancy text in all styles.
How it works
Unicode’s Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block includes a complete monospace set:
| Characters | Code points |
|---|---|
| 𝙰 to 𝚉 (capitals) | U+1D670–U+1D689 |
| 𝚊 to 𝚣 (lowercase) | U+1D68A–U+1D6A3 |
| 𝟶 to 𝟿 (digits) | U+1D7F6–U+1D7FF |
There are no gaps in this set, so every basic letter and digit converts. The tool looks up each character and swaps it if it is A–Z, a–z or 0–9. Everything else is passed through unchanged, which is why _, -, commas and spaces do not take on the typewriter look.
Worked examples
Taken from the tool’s own function:
npm i -g 7z→𝚗𝚙𝚖 𝚒 -𝚐 𝟽𝚣. It looks like a command, but pasted into a terminal it would fail. The hyphen stays a normal hyphen.Hi, 2026!→𝙷𝚒, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟼!. The digits use the monospace set; the comma and ! do not change.A_b→𝙰_𝚋. The underscore is untouched.
Limits and tips
- Not readable by everyone. Screen readers may say “mathematical monospace small n” for each letter or skip the word, and search engines and hashtags will not match it. Keep key information and links in plain text.
- Copying back. If someone copies your monospace text into a search box or a form, it will not match the normal word.
- The conversion is done in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
