How to use the random question generator

1. Choose a Style: Icebreakers, Deeper conversation, Funny, Work and teams or Mix of all.
2. Set How many questions you want, from 1 to 50.
3. Press Generate. The questions appear as a list you can copy in one click.
4. Press Generate again for a new set.

What it does and when to use it

Use it at the start of a meeting, in a new class, on a long car journey, at a dinner where people do not know each other, or in a one-to-one with a new colleague. The styles match the mood. Icebreakers are light (“Are you a morning person or a night owl?”), Deeper conversation suits friends and mentoring (“What is something you have changed your mind about?”), Funny keeps a party moving (“What would your autobiography be called?”), and Work and teams is written for colleagues (“How do you like to receive feedback?”).

For a two-choice party game, try the would you rather generator. For quiz questions with answers, use the random trivia generator. To decide who answers first, spin the spinner wheel with everyone’s names.

How it works

The questions are a fixed list written for this site and stored in the page. When you press Generate, the tool shuffles the chosen style’s list with a Fisher–Yates shuffle, using crypto.getRandomValues for every swap, and takes the first questions. Every question has the same chance of being in your set, and none can appear twice in it. If you ask for more than the style holds, you get the whole style in random order and a note telling you so.

Worked examples

A full set for a team day. Work and teams with How many 50 returns all 20 work questions, including “What advice would you give a new starter?”, in random order, plus the note “Only 20 items match, so you get all of them.” Print the list and go round the table.

All the icebreakers. Icebreakers with How many 50 gives all 21 and the note “Only 21 items match, so you get all of them.”

A quick mix. Mix of all with How many 2 gave “What is a fear you have overcome?” and “If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?” in one run, one deep and one funny.

Limits and tips

• Questions are in English only.
• For a weekly meeting, draw one question per week from a saved full list instead of a new random set each time, so nothing repeats.
• Everything runs in your browser.
