How to use the random animal generator
- Choose a Group: Any, Mammal, Bird, Reptile or amphibian, Sea life or Insect or bug.
- Set How many animals you want, from 1 to 50.
- Leave No repeats ticked for different animals, or untick it.
- Press Generate. Each line shows the emoji, the animal and its group, and Copy all copies the list.
What it does and when to use it
Random animals are useful prompts. Use one for a drawing challenge, a “guess the animal” game where you answer only yes or no, a short research task for pupils, an animal-sounds round with toddlers, or a team mascot. The group filter keeps a lesson on topic: Bird for a bird-spotting class, Sea life for an ocean project.
For acting games, the random charades generator has an Animals theme with easy, medium and hard prompts. For pictures only, the Animals set in the random emoji generator gives 50 animal emoji. For a pet name idea to go with your animal, try the random name generator.
How it works
The animals are a fixed list stored in the page, each with an emoji and a group. The tool keeps the animals in your chosen group. With No repeats, it shuffles them with a Fisher–Yates shuffle and takes the first ones; without it, each animal is drawn independently. Both use crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so every animal in the group has the same chance.
Worked examples
All the reptiles and amphibians. Reptile or amphibian with How many 50 returns all 16, including 🐊 Crocodile, 🐸 Frog and 🦎 Axolotl, in random order, plus the note “Only 16 items match, so you get all of them.”
Two birds. Bird with How many 2 gave 🐦 Toucan · bird and 🦆 Duck · bird in one run.
One animal to draw. Any with How many 1 picks from all 136; press Generate for the next player.
Limits and tips
- Animal names are in English with British spelling, such as Ladybird.
- Emoji are a guide, not an accurate picture; a starfish shows as a star.
- The list covers well-known animals only, so it suits games and school work rather than research.
- Everything runs in your browser.
