Using the resizer for an SBI form
- Open What are you uploading? and pick the item you are working on. The four choices follow SBI’s annexure: Photo, Signature 1 (your signature; it carries a number only because the declaration is treated as a second signature-type image), Thumb / finger impression and Hand-written declaration.
- Add the scan or phone picture of that one item.
- Under Fit to the size, pick Crop to fill when the frame is mostly the subject (photo, thumb). Pick Fit with white margins when losing an edge would cut ink (signature, declaration).
- Keep which part when cropping opens on Top (keeps the head). Leave it there for the photo and switch to Centre for everything else.
- For the signature, tick If the file is below the minimum KB, pad it.
- Press Resize for upload. Read the Check against the rules table, save the JPEG, then go back to step 1 for the next item.
SBI’s four uploads at a glance
Taken from Annexure-II of the Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17. The Probationary Officers advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09 lists identical pixel and KB figures in its own Annexure II. Both were checked on 2026-10-21.
| Upload | Pixels SBI prefers | Allowed file size | Physical size named in the notice | What SBI wants on paper |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 200 × 230 | 20 KB to 50 KB | 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm print | Recent colour passport-style picture, light (preferably white) background |
| Signature | 140 × 60 | 10 KB to 20 KB | not stated | Black ink pen on white paper, no capital letters |
| Left thumb impression | 240 × 240 at 200 DPI | 20 KB to 50 KB | 3 cm × 3 cm | Black or blue ink on white paper |
| Hand-written declaration | 800 × 400 at 200 DPI | 50 KB to 100 KB | 10 cm × 5 cm | English, black ink, white paper, no capital letters |
Every file must be JPG or JPEG. The pixel and centimetre figures agree with each other: at 200 DPI, 240 px is 1.2 inches (about 3.05 cm), and 800 × 400 px is 4 × 2 inches (about 10.16 × 5.08 cm).
For scanning, SBI asks for a resolution of at least 200 dpi, colour set to true colour, and a crop right to the edge of the item before you trim it to the final size. If a photo comes out above 50 KB, the notice suggests changing scanner settings such as the DPI or the number of colours. This tool does the same job afterwards by lowering JPEG quality.
Which SBI recruitment this page follows
SBI writes a separate advertisement for each recruitment, and the upload rules sit in an annexure near the end of it.
- Junior Associates 2026 (the clerical cadre): online registration and fee payment ran from 11.08.2026 to 31.08.2026. The notice planned the Preliminary exam for September 2026 and the Main exam for November 2026, both marked tentative.
- Probationary Officers 2026-27: registration ran from 18.06.2026 to 08.07.2026.
Neither window was open on 2026-10-21. Current and future notices appear under Current Openings at sbi.bank.in/web/careers. When the next one comes out, open its annexure and compare it with the table above; if a single number differs, follow the notice.
Writing the declaration the SBI way
The declaration is a short paragraph you write by hand and photograph. In it you give your name and date of birth, state that everything in your application is correct, true and valid, promise to show supporting documents when asked, and confirm that the signature, photograph and thumb impression are your own.
Do not work from memory or from this summary. The two 2026 notices print slightly different versions: the clerk advertisement says “left thumb impression”, while the PO advertisement says “left-hand thumb impression” and sets out the name and date-of-birth blanks a little differently. Copy the version in the advertisement you are applying under, word for word.
SBI’s conditions for the page itself:
- English only, on white paper, in black ink.
- Not in capital letters. The notice says a declaration or signature in capitals will not be accepted.
- Written by you. The notice says the signature, thumb impression and declaration must be the applicant’s own and not done by anyone else.
The final image has a 2 : 1 shape, wider than it is tall. Write in a compact block of several lines rather than one long line across the page, so the block fills the frame without large blank areas.
The thumb impression: left, right, and later checks
The annexure asks for the left thumb. If you do not have a left thumb, SBI lets you use the right one instead. Ink the thumb in black or blue, place it on white paper, press firmly enough for the ridge lines to show, and keep the paper still so the print does not smear.
The impression matters beyond the form. Section 12 of the clerk advertisement says the Bank may record a thumb impression or iris scan at various stages to confirm the candidate is genuine, and that any inconsistency can lead to rejection. It also asks candidates not to have mehandi, ink or chemicals on their hands. Use the same thumb every time.
Your photo, and the second live photo
SBI collects two pictures of you. The first is the scanned or digital photo this tool prepares. The second is a live photograph taken during the application, either through your computer’s webcam (the Capture Photo option) or on your phone after scanning a QR code (the Click here to Scan option). Both routes upload the picture into the form automatically.
The annexure’s advice for the photo:
- Face the camera with a relaxed expression against a light, preferably white, background in good light.
- Outdoors, keep the sun behind you or stand in shade so you are not squinting.
- If you use a flash, avoid red-eye. If you wear glasses, make sure there is no glare and your eyes can be seen.
- No caps, hats, dark or coloured glasses. Religious headwear is allowed if it does not cover the face.
Order prints of the same photo now. SBI advises keeping about 8 copies for the later stages. At each exam the photo must be pasted on the call letter and you must bring two additional copies matching it; the notices say a candidate without them will not be allowed to appear.
Your signature has to match on exam day
At the exam you sign the attendance sheet and the call letter. If that signature does not match the one you uploaded, SBI disqualifies you; the PO notice applies the same rule to the photo. So sign in your everyday hand, the way you will sign in the hall, in black ink on white paper and not in capital letters. Sign larger than usual on the paper. The final image has only 8,400 pixels, so small, thin strokes break up.
Numbers worked through the tool
These crops were produced by running the tool’s geometry code on the sizes shown.
A printed passport photo, scanned at 200 DPI. A 3.5 × 4.5 cm print scanned at SBI’s minimum 200 DPI is about 276 × 354 px. SBI’s 200 × 230 frame is squarer than that print, so Crop to fill with Top keeps a 276 × 317 px area starting 7 px from the top. That trims 37 rows: 7 above the head and 30 below the chin. The area is then scaled to 200 × 230. Scanned at 300 DPI instead (about 413 × 531 px), the kept area is 413 × 475 px, starting 11 px down.
A thumb impression cropped to 600 × 700 px. Crop to fill with Centre keeps a 600 × 600 square starting 50 px down and scales it to 240 × 240. Fit with white margins keeps everything: the print shrinks to 206 × 240 px with 17 px of white on each side.
A declaration cropped to 1,800 × 1,100 px. That block is a little taller than 2 : 1, so Fit with white margins scales it to 655 × 400 px and adds 145 px of white split across the two sides. With the whole A4 page instead (about 1,654 × 2,339 px at 200 DPI), Crop to fill with Centre would keep only a 1,654 × 827 px band starting 756 px down, which is why cropping close to the writing first is worth it.
A signature cropped to 1,000 × 450 px. Fit with white margins gives 133 × 60 px with 7 px of white across the sides, and no ink is lost. Crop to fill would keep a 1,000 × 429 band and drop 21 rows, 11 from the top and 10 from the bottom, which can clip a tall loop.
What happens inside your browser
Nothing leaves your device; the work happens in a background worker on the page.
- The file is decoded with its camera rotation applied, and any transparent area becomes white.
- It is made exactly the target size by cropping or by white margins, as you chose.
- It is saved as a JPEG at the highest quality. If that is over the KB ceiling, the tool finds the highest quality that fits, going no lower than 30%. The pixel size stays fixed.
- The ceiling is counted at 1,000 bytes per KB and the floor at 1,024, so the file sits inside the range whichever way a portal counts.
- The thumb impression and declaration files carry a 200 DPI tag, as the annexure asks.
- If the file is still under the floor, it is padded when you ticked the option, or the tool tells you.
If the SBI portal still complains
- Error message on upload. SBI’s form shows one when the size or format is not as prescribed. Read the tool’s table, re-run with the right item selected, and make sure the file ends in .jpg or .jpeg.
- Blurred or smudged in the preview. The annexure says an unclear face, signature, thumb impression or declaration may lead to rejection, and lets you edit the application and upload again before you submit. Re-scan rather than sharpen a poor image.
- Wrong box. Each image must go in its own slot. The notice says a photo or signature uploaded in the wrong place can stop you from sitting the exam.
- Still over the limit at 30% quality. Grain and patterned backgrounds cost bytes. Re-scan on plain white paper in even light.
- A new notice with different figures. Type them into Resize Image in KB and Pixels.
- Messy signature background. Run it through the Signature Extractor first, or trim it with the Image Cropper.
- Other exams. IBPS bank exams use very similar rules; see the IBPS Photo & Signature Resizer. The guide exam form photo and signature sizes compares the main Indian exams side by side.
The tool checks pixel size, file weight and format. It cannot judge whether your photo is recent, your declaration text is complete, or your thumb print is readable. Check those yourself against the latest SBI advertisement before you submit.
