How to use NEET Photo Resizer
- In What are you uploading?, choose Photo, Signature or Thumb / finger impression. Each shows its KB range.
- Choose the image for that item. For the photo, crop it first so your face fills most of the frame (see the tips below).
- You can ignore Fit to the size and Keep which part when cropping. They only apply when the rules give exact pixels, and the NEET bulletin does not.
- Tick If the file is below the minimum KB, pad it if a small, clean scan might come out under the minimum.
- Press Resize for upload and check the Check against the rules table.
- Download the JPEG, then repeat for each item. For the impressions, do one file per hand if the form asks for them separately.
The official rules (checked 2026-10-02)
From the NTA’s Information Bulletin for NEET(UG)-2026:
| Item | File size | Format | Other rules in the bulletin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 10–200 KB | JPG/JPEG | Recent passport-size photo, colour or black and white; about 80% of the image is your face without a mask, including ears; white background. A live photo is also captured. |
| Signature | 10–100 KB | JPG/JPEG | No pixel size given. |
| Finger and thumb impressions (left and right hand) | 50–200 KB used here | JPG/JPEG | Section d(iii) says 10–200 KB; a later section says 50–300 KB. 50–200 KB meets both. |
No pixel dimensions are given for any item. NTA publishes a new bulletin each year, so open the current one from neet.nta.nic.in before you upload.
What it does and when to use it
For NEET (UG), the bulletin limits the file size of each upload, not its pixel size. That sounds easy, but a phone photo is usually several megabytes, far above 200 KB. A clean signature on white paper, on the other hand, can be tiny and fall below 10 KB.
This page handles both ends. It aims for the best-quality JPEG inside each item’s KB range. It keeps the picture’s shape, and only shrinks it when quality alone cannot bring it under the maximum.
Use it when you are:
- filling the NEET (UG) application and preparing the three kinds of image,
- fixing an upload that was rejected for its file size,
- dealing with the finger and thumb impressions, where the bulletin’s two ranges are confusing.
How it works
All processing happens in a worker in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
- Decode. The file is opened upright, and any transparency becomes white.
- No crop. Because no pixel size is set, the image keeps its own proportions.
- Fit under the maximum. The JPEG is tried at top quality. If it is over 200 KB (or 100 KB for the signature), the tool searches for the best quality that fits, down to 30%. If that is still too big, it finds the largest scale that fits and fine-tunes the quality there.
- Check the minimum. If the file is under 10 KB (or 50 KB for impressions), it is padded when you ticked the option, or you get a warning.
- Report. The table shows the pixel size, the file size and whether it falls inside the range.
KB is counted as 1,024 bytes, so 200 KB means at most 204,800 bytes.
Worked examples
A colour phone selfie, about 4 MB. At full size it is far above 200 KB. The tool lowers the quality and, if needed, the pixel size, until the file fits. Crop to your head and shoulders first with the Image Cropper, so the shrunk photo is mostly face and meets the 80% rule.
A signature on white paper, cropped tight. Mostly white images compress very well, so the file may come out at a few kilobytes, under the 10 KB minimum. With padding ticked, the tool adds empty bytes to reach the minimum and the table shows a tick.
A sheet with all ten finger impressions, scanned. A detailed scan may be over 200 KB. The tool brings it down. If it ends up under 50 KB, the padding option lifts it. Check the form, because it may ask for each hand as a separate image.
Preparing the images
Photo
- Use a white background and even light. The bulletin allows colour or black and white.
- Your face, without a mask and with both ears visible, should take up about 80% of the image. Crop tightly before you resize.
- Use a recent photo, since a live photo is taken during the application too.
Signature
- Sign on white paper with a dark pen, and keep the signature large in the frame.
- Crop away the empty paper, or use the Signature Extractor to clean and crop it.
Finger and thumb impressions
- Follow the form’s instructions on which fingers and how many images.
- Use ink on white paper, press evenly and photograph straight from above in good light.
A quick check before you upload
Open each downloaded file and ask: is it a JPEG, is it in the right KB range (the table tells you), is it the right item, and can you see the details clearly when you zoom in? The file names end with the item, such as -neet-photo.jpg or -neet-thumb.jpg, so you can tell them apart in your downloads folder.
Limits and tips
- The tool does not check content. It cannot see whether your ears are visible or the background is white.
- Shrinking has a floor. Very detailed images can still be too big at 30% quality and a small size. Re-take them in better light on plainer paper.
- Padding only changes the byte count, not the picture.
- Rules change every year. Figures were checked on 2026-10-02 against the 2026 bulletin. Always confirm them in the latest NTA notice.
- Other entrance tests. The JEE Main Photo Resizer uses the JEE (Main) bulletin’s own rules.
