Why are there two different "ounces"?+
Avoirdupois ounce (28.35 g) is the everyday ounce used for food and shipping. Troy ounce (31.10 g) is used only for precious metals — gold, silver, platinum. They are not interchangeable, which is why ToolsRift labels them clearly.
What's the difference between MB and MiB?+
MB (megabyte) is 10^6 = 1,000,000 bytes, used in marketing for drive capacity. MiB (mebibyte) is 2^20 = 1,048,576 bytes, used in operating systems. A "500 GB" drive holds about 465 GiB. The converter handles both correctly.
How precise are the conversions?+
Internal math uses 15+ significant digits. Display precision is configurable per tool (default 6 digits). Conversions defined by exact relations (1 inch = 25.4 mm exactly) produce exact results; conversions involving irrational constants (degrees to radians) round only at display time.
Does it handle temperature correctly?+
Yes — temperature is not a simple multiplication because of zero-point offsets. The converter uses the correct formulas: F = C × 9/5 + 32, K = C + 273.15, R = F + 459.67. Negative temperatures convert correctly without sign errors.
Can I convert across categories (e.g. mass to energy)?+
