How to use the YouTube description generator

1. Write the Opening summary (shown before “…more”). One or two sentences that say what the viewer gets.
2. List Key points (one per line). They become bullet points under “What you’ll learn”.
3. Add Chapters (0:00 Title), one per line, such as 3:10 Painting the sky.
4. Add Links (label: URL), one per line.
5. Pick a Call to action, type your Channel name and Hashtags, then copy the description or download description.txt.

What it does and when to use it

Good YouTube descriptions follow a familiar shape: a hook, what the video covers, chapters for skipping ahead, useful links and a few hashtags. Writing that by hand for every upload is repetitive, and small mistakes, such as a first chapter at 0:05, quietly stop chapters from appearing. This tool keeps the shape the same each time and catches those mistakes.

How it works

The description is built in this order, and empty parts are skipped: summary, “What you’ll learn:” bullets, “Chapters:”, “Links:”, the call-to-action line, then hashtags. Each part is separated by a blank line.

Chapter lines must start with a time such as 0:45 or 1:02:03, optionally followed by a dash. The tool converts each time to seconds and checks the YouTube chapter rules. Link lines written as “Label: URL” or “Label | URL” are tidied to “Label: URL”. Hashtags can be separated by commas or spaces; a # is added where missing, and anything other than letters, numbers and underscores is removed. Finally, the character count is compared with YouTube’s 5,000-character limit. It all runs in your browser.

Worked examples

Default description. With the sample watercolour inputs, the result is 463 characters. It ends with the line If this helped, subscribe to Brush & Water for more videos like it. followed by #watercolor #painting #artforbeginners.

Broken chapters. Chapters 0:05 Intro and 0:10 Next with the Comment call to action. The tool warns: YouTube chapters need the first timestamp to be 0:00. YouTube chapters need at least three timestamps. It also says the first chapter is shorter than 10 seconds.

Title only. With every field empty except the title, the description is just In this video: Watercolour for Beginners: Your First Landscape.

Limits and tips

• Key points are split at line breaks only, so a point like “brushes, paper and paint” stays one bullet.
• Only the first lines show before “…more”. Put the most useful sentence first, not the links.
• The call-to-action lines are fixed sentences. Edit them if they do not sound like you.
