How to use Timeline Maker

Enter one event per line as date, title and an optional description. Choose horizontal or vertical, set the colour theme, then export the timeline as SVG or PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the horizontal or the vertical layout?

Horizontal works well for a handful of milestones on a slide because it reads like a journey from left to right. Vertical is better when you have many events or longer descriptions, since each entry gets its own full line of text.

Are the events spaced by real dates?

In horizontal mode yes — events are positioned proportionally along the axis, so long gaps between milestones are visible. Vertical mode lists them in date order at even spacing, which keeps long descriptions readable.

Can I use it for non-date labels like quarters?

Yes. If a value cannot be read as a date the tool falls back to using it as a plain label in the order you wrote it, so Q1, Phase 2 or Week 6 all work as timeline stops.
