How to use the SVG to PNG converter
- Paste your markup into SVG markup (or choose a file), or drop an .svg file. A file replaces whatever is in the box.
- Check the preview. Below it a line such as “SVG 120 × 120 → PNG 480 × 480 px” shows the size you will get.
- Set Scale (0.25× to 16×), or type a pixel count in Or exact width (0 = use scale). An exact width wins over the scale.
- Leave Transparent background ticked for a see-through PNG, or untick it and choose a Background colour.
- Press Convert to PNG and download the file. Its name includes the size, for example
logo-1024x1024.png.
What it does and when to use it
SVG describes shapes, so it stays sharp at any size, but app stores, email signatures, slide decks and many chat apps accept PNG and not SVG. This tool makes the PNG at the size you need.
Typical jobs: an app or store icon at 512 or 1024 px, a logo for a document, or an icon at 2× and 3× for high-density screens. To go the other way, from a photo or PNG to a vector, use Image to SVG. If the PNG is too heavy afterwards, the image compressor can shrink it. For a full set of site icons, the favicon generator takes the PNG from here.
How it works
The tool reads the width and height on the root <svg> tag, or the viewBox if there is no size. Target width = exact width if you set one, otherwise source width × scale. The height follows the drawing’s proportions.
Before drawing, it rewrites only the root tag’s width and height to the target size. It adds a viewBox from the old size if one is missing, so the shapes scale with it. The browser then draws the SVG onto a canvas at full size, which keeps edges crisp, and saves the canvas as PNG.
The SVG is only ever loaded as an image from a local Blob URL. It is never inserted into the page, so scripts or event handlers inside a file cannot run. Nothing is uploaded.
Worked examples
These sizes come from the tool’s own size rule.
- The sample icon at the default 4×. The built-in example is 120 × 120, so the result is
PNG width: 480 px, a 480 × 480 PNG. - An app icon. The same SVG with exact width 1024 gives
PNG width: 1024 px. The scale is ignored. - An icon with only a viewBox. Markup with
viewBox='0 0 24 24'and no width reportsSVG size: 24 × 24. At 4× that becomes a 96 px PNG. For a 2× and 3× set of a 24 px icon, run it at scale 2 and then 3.
Limits and tips
- Text uses fonts installed on your device. If the SVG names a font you do not have, a fallback font is used. Convert text to paths in your editor for an exact match.
- The result is always PNG. Use the image converter if you need JPEG or WebP.
