How to use the Amazon FBA fee calculator
- Enter the Item price and, if you charge one, the Shipping or gift wrap charged to the buyer (usually $0 for FBA).
- Pick your Referral fee category and the Product type: most products, apparel or dangerous goods.
- Choose the Fee period: non-peak (15 January to 14 October 2026) or holiday peak (15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027).
- Enter the packaged length, width and height in inches or cm, and the Unit weight with its unit.
- Add your Product cost per unit, Shipping to Amazon per unit and any Other costs. Pick your Selling plan.
- Read your net profit per unit, margin and fee totals, then check the breakdown table to see the size tier and rates used.
What it does and when to use it
Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) has two fees on almost every sale: the referral fee, which every seller pays, and the FBA fulfilment fee for picking, packing and shipping the order. In the default example below they take $9.36 of a $24.99 sale, about 37%, so it pays to check them before you order stock.
Use this calculator when you are:
- deciding whether a product idea can make money at a target price;
- comparing two package sizes, since a slimmer box can drop a whole size tier;
- planning prices for the holiday peak, when fulfilment fees go up;
- checking that the fees Amazon charged match the published rate card.
If you sell on several marketplaces, compare the same item with the eBay fee calculator and the Etsy fee calculator.
How it works
1. Size tier. The calculator sorts your three sides into longest, median and shortest, then works out the dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 139). It compares the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight with Amazon’s 2026 size tier table:
| Size tier | Max weight | Longest | Median | Shortest | Length + girth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small standard | 16 oz | 15 in | 12 in | 0.75 in | — |
| Large standard | 20 lb | 18 in | 14 in | 8 in | — |
| Small bulky | 50 lb | 37 in | 28 in | 20 in | 130 in |
| Large bulky | 50 lb | 59 in | 33 in | 33 in | 130 in |
| Extra-large | above these |
Girth is 2 × (median + shortest). For bulky and extra-large items, the width and height count as at least 2 inches in the dimensional weight.
2. Fee weight. Small standard items and extra-large items over 150 lb use the unit weight only. Every other tier uses whichever is greater, unit weight or dimensional weight.
3. Fulfilment fee. The calculator looks up the rate for your tier, weight band and price band (under $10, $10–$50, over $50) on Amazon’s 2026 non-peak or peak rate card. Heavier items add a step per extra interval: $0.08 per started 4 oz above 3 lb for large standard (apparel: $0.16 per half pound), $0.38 per pound above the first pound for bulky items, and $0.75 per pound above 51 lb or 71 lb for extra-large. If the surcharge box is ticked, the fee is multiplied by 1.035 for the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge and rounded to the cent.
4. Referral fee. The referral fee is your category’s percentage of the total sales price, with that category’s minimum. Some categories charge one rate on the whole price below a threshold (for example Beauty: 8% at $10 or less, 15% above). Others charge each portion of the price at its own rate (for example Electronics Accessories: 15% up to $100, 8% on the rest).
5. Profit. Net profit = price + shipping charged − referral fee − fulfilment fee − any closing or per-item fee − your costs. Margin is profit divided by revenue, and return is profit divided by your costs.
Worked examples
Default item. A $24.99 Home and Kitchen product in a 10 × 6 × 3 inch box weighing 1.2 lb. The dimensional weight is 180 ÷ 139 = 1.295 lb, which is heavier than the scale weight, so the fee weight is 1.295 lb. That is large standard, 1.25+ to 1.5 lb, $10–$50 band: $5.42, or $5.61 with the surcharge. The referral fee is 15% of $24.99 = $3.75. With a $6 product cost and $0.50 to ship each unit to Amazon, the calculator shows net profit per unit of $9.13 and a 36.53% margin.
Same item in the holiday peak. The peak rate for that band is $5.73, which becomes $5.93 with the surcharge, and profit drops to $8.81.
Amazon’s own phone-case example. A 13.8 × 9 × 0.7 inch case weighing 2.88 oz is small standard, 2+ to 4 oz. At $9.99 it is in the under-$10 band, so the base fee is $2.49, exactly as on Amazon’s rate page. With the surcharge it is $2.58, and Beauty’s 8% referral fee is $0.80, for total Amazon fees of $3.38.
A small bulky item. Amazon’s baby-cot example (24 × 7.5 × 6 inches, 7.90 lb, over $50) costs $7.55 for the first pound plus 7 × $0.38 = $10.21, or $10.57 with the surcharge. With 15% referral on $59.99 ($9.00), fees total $19.57.

Limits and tips
- Not every FBA fee is here. Storage, aged-inventory, low-inventory-level, inbound placement, returns processing, removal and lithium battery fees are left out because they depend on your stock and timing. Put a per-unit estimate in Other costs.
- Overmax items (longest side over 96 inches, or length plus girth over 130 inches) pay an extra handling fee. The calculator warns you but does not add it.
- Amazon measures your product. If its measurements differ from yours, the tier can change. Compare with the fee preview in Seller Central, and use the custom rates box to enter Amazon’s figures.
- Rates change. These are the 2026 US rate cards as published on 3 October 2026. Other Amazon marketplaces have different fees.
- Price for profit, not just break-even. Feed the per-unit profit into the break-even calculator to see how many units cover your fixed costs, and use the markup and margin calculator to set a target price.
