How to use Savings Goal Calculator

Enter your goal amount, current savings, expected return and time frame. The calculator shows the monthly saving needed and a year-by-year progress table.

Frequently asked questions

How is the required monthly saving calculated?

The tool uses the future value of an annuity formula, factoring in your interest rate and existing balance, then solves for the monthly deposit that hits your goal.

Does a starting balance reduce my monthly saving?

Yes. Any current savings grow with interest toward your goal, so a larger starting balance lowers the monthly amount you still need to set aside.

What if my interest rate is zero?

With no interest, the required monthly saving is simply the remaining goal divided by the number of months until your deadline.
