How to use the Text Repeater
- Type or paste your text into Text to repeat. It can be a single character, a word, a line or several paragraphs.
- Set Times, from 1 to 10,000.
- Pick a Separator: New line, Space, Comma and space, Nothing, or Custom…. With Custom…, type your own into Custom separator.
- Tick Number each copy if you want 1., 2., 3. in front of each copy.
- Copy the result. Its label tells you how many copies were made.
What it does and when to use it
Some jobs need the same text over and over, and typing or pasting it by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. Common uses:
- Test data. Fill a form field, a database column or a page layout with a long string to see where it breaks. Repeating “abcdefghij” 50 times gives exactly 500 characters, which makes length limits easy to test.
- Templates. Build a block of numbered rows such as “1. Name:” to print or paste into a document.
- Lists. Create a comma-separated list of the same tag or value for a spreadsheet.
- Fun. Make a long “hahaha” for a message or a chant for a sign.
After repeating, you can count the characters to confirm the length, add line numbers in a different style, or use Add Prefix/Suffix to wrap each line in quotes.
How it works
The tool makes the number of copies you asked for. If numbering is on, each copy gets its number, a dot and a space in front. The copies are then joined with the separator, so the separator appears between copies, never after the last one. In a custom separator, \n becomes a line break and \t becomes a tab. All of this happens in your browser.
Before building the text, the tool checks the size. If Times is above 10,000, or the text length multiplied by Times would pass 5 million characters, it shows a message instead of freezing the page.
Worked examples
No separator. “Na” repeated 8 times with Separator set to Nothing gives NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa, 16 characters on one line.
Numbered rows. “Test row”, Times 3, New line, with Number each copy ticked, gives three lines: 1. Test row, 2. Test row and 3. Test row.
Custom separator. “tag”, Times 4, Custom… with “ | “ (space, pipe, space) gives tag | tag | tag | tag. Note that no separator follows the last copy.
Limits and tips
- Trailing spaces in your text are repeated too. Trim them first if you do not want them.
- For a random order of different items rather than copies of one, use the Text Randomizer.
