What is scientific notation?

A compact way to write very large or small numbers as a coefficient times a power of ten, e.g. 3.2 × 10⁴.

Can it convert both ways?

What is the coefficient rule?

In proper scientific notation the coefficient is at least 1 and less than 10, with the exponent absorbing the rest.
