How to use Pythagorean Calculator

Enter any two of the three sides (legs a, b or hypotenuse c) and leave the unknown blank; the missing side is solved with steps shown.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pythagorean theorem?

In a right triangle, a² + b² = c², where c is the hypotenuse (the longest side, opposite the right angle).

Can it find a leg, not just the hypotenuse?

Yes — leave any one side blank and it solves for it, e.g. b = √(c² − a²).

What if my triangle is not right-angled?

The Pythagorean theorem only applies to right triangles; use the triangle solver for other triangles.
