How to use Tints & Shades Generator

Enter a base color and the tool renders a row of lighter tints and darker shades; click any swatch to copy its HEX.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a tint and a shade?

A tint mixes the color with white for a lighter version; a shade mixes it with black for a darker one. This tool produces both.

How are the steps calculated?

The base color is converted to HSL and its lightness is increased for tints and decreased for shades in even steps.

Does the hue stay the same?

Yes — only lightness changes, so every tint and shade keeps the original hue and saturation.
