Frequently asked questions

What range of numbers is supported?

Standard Roman numerals cover 1 to 3999, the maximum representable without special overline notation.

What are the Roman numeral symbols?

I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500 and M=1000, combined using additive and subtractive rules.

How does subtractive notation work?

A smaller symbol before a larger one subtracts, so IV is 4 and IX is 9 rather than IIII or VIIII.
