What it does and when to use it
Address forms are some of the most error-prone parts of any website. Testers need many plausible addresses to check field lengths, sorting, postcode formats, shipping-zone rules and printed labels without using real customers’ data, which privacy laws such as the GDPR restrict. Designers need believable text for mock-ups.
This tool gives each address in separate columns and in a ready-made single line, so you can test both a multi-field form and a single text box. For complete test records with names, emails and phone numbers in the same row, use the bulk fake data generator. Names on their own come from the fake name generator, and safe fictional numbers from the fake phone number generator.
How it works
All random choices use crypto.getRandomValues. Street names and suffixes come from short built-in lists, and each country has its own layout:
- United States: a house number from 10 to 9,999, a street, and about one in four with “Apt” and a number. The city and state pair is real; the ZIP is five random digits.
- United Kingdom: a house number from 1 to 199, a town paired with its real postcode area, then a random district number from 1 to 20 and an inward code made of a digit and two letters. Letters never used in inward codes (C, I, K, M, O, V) are left out.
- India: a house number from 1 to 400, a city and state, and a six-digit PIN whose first two digits belong to that city.
Worked examples
These rows came from the tool; yours will differ.
- United States:
3396 Clover Lane, Salem, MA 49962, under the headerStreet | City | State | ZIP | Country | Full address. - United Kingdom:
104 Willow Lane, Plymouth PL11 6DX. The PL area matches Plymouth and the Region column is empty. - India:
253, Heather Colony, Kochi, Kerala 685366, under a header that names the last code columnPIN.
Limits and tips
- Only three countries are covered, with a few dozen towns each.
- Random postcodes may not exist, or may belong to a different street. Do not test a live courier or address-lookup API with them.
- Mark test records clearly in shared databases so nobody mails anything to them.
