How to use Complementary Color Finder

Enter a hex value, and the tool calculates the exact complementary (opposite) color on the color wheel.

Frequently asked questions

What is a complementary color?

The color directly opposite on the color wheel — 180° away in hue — which produces the strongest visual contrast when paired.

How is the complement calculated?

We convert your color to HSL, add 180° to the hue while keeping saturation and lightness, then convert back to HEX.

Is grey's complement the same color?

Yes — neutral greys have no hue, so their complement is the same grey. Complements only differ for saturated colors.
