Pick a text color and a background color and the tool computes their contrast ratio, then shows whether it passes WCAG AA and AAA for normal and large text.
WCAG AA requires 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text; AAA raises this to 7:1 and 4.5:1 respectively.
Text at least 18pt (24px), or 14pt (18.66px) bold, qualifies as large and is held to a lower contrast threshold.
Sufficient contrast keeps text readable for users with low vision or color deficiency and is required for accessible, compliant design.
